Radio broadcasts in fall 2025
Our trip to Cairo with the Ensemble Aventure in fall 2024 is the subject of a current broadcast on Deutschlandfunk. It begins with the challenging “Solo” by Samir Odeh-Tamimi, an Israeli-Palestinian composer, which I had the pleasure of performing at the time, and also revisits our wonderful collaboration with oud player Nehad El Sayed: https://www.deutschlandfunk.de/revisited-forum-neuer-musik-100.html SWR broadcast the varied homage “BachBerioBeatles” to mark the 100th birthday of composer Luciano Berio:: https://www.swr.de/kultur/musik/bachberiobeatles-mit-der-holst-sinfonietta-jetztmusik-2025-10-21-100.html I would also like to take this opportunity to mention the Duo Morgenstern's YouTube channel, where we continuously publish new concert recordings: https://www.youtube.com/@DuoMorgenstern-b3z Photo: ©lorenzadaveriophoto
“Don Quijote” at the Theater Hof
Don Quijote – an opera from a suitcase Musical theater for children by Katharina Schmauder and Levin Handschuh Freely adapted from motifs by Miguel de Cervantes For children aged 5 and up Hof premiere/world premiere of the piano version Want to be a real knight once in your life? With a horse, sword, and everything that goes with it? That is Tuco's big dream. So, together with his musical accompaniment, he immerses himself in the world of the legendary Don Quijote. Together with an imaginary squire, he escapes his gray everyday life and takes the children on a colorful journey to a castle. He plays the hero, fights a battle, and is taken prisoner. How will the story end? Musical dramatic forms of storytelling for young audiences give children special access to the world and to culture in general. Children are curious and eager for new experiences. “Don Quijote" – an opera from a suitcase – offers a playful introduction to the world of theater. With wonderful music and singing, this exciting mini-opera about adventure, friendship, and the power of imagination transforms any location into an adventurous knight's backdrop. reflexionen – frauenliebe und leben (WP)
My new song cycle “reflexionen - frauenliebe und leben” (reflections - women's love and life), based on poetry by Helle Trede, will premiere in May. Mezzo-soprano Pascale Jonczyk had the idea of contrasting Schumann/Chamisso's cycle with a contemporary perspective. In collaboration with pianist Olivia Shurman, poet Helle Trede, and myself, a new song cycle was created in a cross-generational exchange on the theme of women's love and life. The cycle will be performed for the first time on May 10 and 11 in Freiburg (see schedule). In addition to the original version for medium voice, there are versions for high and low voice, excerpts of which will be heard at the following concerts: Wednesday, May 7, Munich State Library: https://tonkuenstler-muenchen.de/events/2-x-3-generationen/ Wednesday, June 25, Schwere Reiter Munich: https://adevantgarde.de/veranstaltung/freundinnen
Recital “Flow my tears”
England, the country without music, is how the kingdom was described in the 19th century - however, John Dowland did not weep over this unfair accusation when he wrote his heart-rending song “Flow my tears”. This program, which spans 111 years of English works for viola and piano, proves that this is not the case. We experience the composers Britten and Adés, both equally renowned pianists and conductors, in two rather introverted and quiet pieces: Britten's famous Lachrymae after Dowland is a work of variations in which the theme “Flow my Tears” is only heard in its original form at the very end. Britten's only work for viola and piano has become one of the great repertoire works. Adés' Three Berceuses is also contemplative and deals with scenes from his 2016 opera “The Exterminating Angel” in a very intimate way. In contrast, the First Sonata by York Bowen, probably the last Romantic in English music, is a magnificent and virtuosic work that is rarely heard in this country. Rebecca Clarke's sonata, on the other hand, has long been regarded as one of the most important works of the early 20th century in this genre and concludes our program. A celebration of the viola and English music! This program is my official debut project [...]
